- Maximum weight unregistered parcel:4kg @ Registered parcel-20kg
- Max size limit of parcel is-Length1 meter and length and girth are 1.80mt
- parcel size minimum 1 X1.8m or 100X180Cms.
- Booking of Parcel Maximum weight for Branch Office is-10kgs and for SO/HO is =20kgs
- Carrying Single parcel bag for GDS runner maximum=14kgs and Combined-28kg
- Cost for booking for a weight not exceeding 500 gms-Rs.19/- and for every additional 500gm or fraction thereof Rs.16/-
- Parcel above10kg delivered at post office window if it is sent by postman charges Rs.5/-.
- After given notification customer should collect parcel within7days from Post Office-fails tot ake delivery of the parcel at post office within seven days ,be treated as ‘unclaimed’. and 15day in case of foreign article.
- Branch office can book parcel upto 10kg only.
- If written communication on parcel, then ,each such communication will be charged with the double the letter postage...
- Parcel is suspected to contain any written communication---“for open delivery"
- Parcel found to contain prohibited remarks is to be written as- -”Doubtful"
- Unregistered article found Open/Damage/Without content- “received open” or “received torn/damaged” or “without content"
- Article marked as by parcel post is found in letter box & in a mail bag-”Found in the letter box"
- -Redirection fee will be recovered from the sender where a parcel has been returned as unclaimed or refused for delivery are direction fee amounting to half the prepaid rate is chargeable from the sender in respect of each redirection.
- Redirection fee of parcels within delivery area/original address and sender in case of unclaimed parcel is-free of cost.
- Inland parcel redirection fee is 50% of value of postage.
- About parcel, in same area, town, within municipal then free.
- Article bearing the superscription ‘To await arrival’ To be kept till called for ‘and article addressed for C/o of postmaster are called poste restante article ,VP article marked post restante kept for7days.Disposal of post restante not exceeding one month. It is for strangers and visitor.
- Enquiry & complaints:-
- All complaints should be addressed to the local superintendent of post offices except in the case of a first class head post office the postmaster in the charge of which is competent to attend to any compliant relating to his office.
- Complaint against departmental service: Bonafide complaints presented at any post ffice should be sent on freed of charge.
- VP complaint can be lodged only at the office of posting with prescribed VP enquiry fee-only vp complaint Rs.1/-
- MO booked in field post office complaint period is 2years.- IPO/MO-12month.
- RL/Insurance-3 months VP/Unregister/Inland-6 Months.
- Speed post-1month
- Miscarriage/loss of registered letter-1month
- If the complaint regarding a V.P article is found to be well grounded, the enquiry fee paid by the complainant will be refunded Fees:
- Cost of VP Booking
- Rs.2/-for upto Rs.20/ .
- Rs.3/-between value Rs20 to Rs.50//-
- Rs.5/-above Rs.50/-
- Demurrage charge on VP article for detention beyond7days
- 1) Parcel per day - Rs.3/-
- 2)other articles per day–Rs.2/-
- if the addressee fails to pay the charges in full in case of deficiency in the fees or postage on an unregistered parcel the parcel should be returned to the sender for recovery.
- Whether the foreign parcels booked in India should bear the word ‘’Registered’’ All foreign parcels (Except those addressed to NEPAL& Bhutan) booked in India should not bear the word, “Registered"
- Controller of foreign mail parcel is located in Mumbai.
- In case of parcel mail articles received ‘’Outside’’ noted in the mail list, the parcel sorting assistant must initial in mail list document in token of having received the parcels.
- What is the disposal of the foreign parcel in case of parcel treated as abandoned at office of delivery at foreign country:
- 1) It will be sold by auction
- 2) It will be destroyed.

- Business Parcel service iso ffered to contractual customers with minimum chargeable weight will initiate from 2Kgs and maximum weight will be upto 35Kgs.The transmission of such service is by surface.
- Fee for recall:-
- Rs.6/-per article for inland.
- Rs.30/-per article for foreign letter post items.
- Rs.30/-per article for foreign parcel items.
- Door to Door Service: All Business Parcel consignments shall be given door delivery irrespective of its weight. Business/Corporate customers are provided pick-up facility from their premises.
- Unregistered parcels posted in letter boxes will be compulsorily registered; If the parcel is refused by the addressee, the article will be delivered to the sender and registration charge will be collected.
- Inland parcels cannot be redirected out of India.

- The Director General may authorize the Heads of Postal Circles to designate from time to time, the designated office where article called as “Overnight Parcel” may be booked, subject to the following conditions namely:
- (a) The maximum weight of the Overnight Parcel shall be10kgs
- (b)The tariff to be charged for the Overnight Parcel shall be as under, namely:
- 1)For the first 2kgs- Charge (in Rs.) 250
- 2)For every additional Kg. or part there of---100
- (c)Additional charge for door delivery shall be fifty rupees for each Overnight Parcel;
- (d)The size of an ‘Over night Parcel’ shall not exceed 1.50meters for any one dimension or 3meters for the sum of the length and the greatest circumference measured in a direction other than the length;
- (e)The Director General may provide for insurance to the Overnight parcel service ,if consider necessary.
- A new and separate network consisting of 189 Parcel Hubs, including 57 Level1(L1) and 132 Level2(L2) hubs for the handling parcels has been approved.
- Delivery Norms for Nodal Delivery Centers are:-
- (i)Metros where Parcel density exceeds 2parcels per sqkm.
- (ii)All other cities/towns where Parcel exceeds1parcel per sqkm.
- As per PNOP guidelines, what is the concept to be followed for filling the delivery bag or delivery vehicle: LIFO(Last In First Out)
- As per PNOP guidelines, the number of failed delivery attempts (due to recipient caused reasons or receipt has refused to accept the parcel) that qualify for return of a parcel are: 2 attempts.
- As per the NDC concept ,Four wheelers would be used to deliver bigger parcels typically more than: 2kgs
- As per the NDC concept, four wheelers would be used to deliver bigger parcels about the range of: 70-80 parcels
- As per the NDC concept, on a two wheeler, a postman would be capable of delivering about: 60 parcels in 2 rounds.
- The Parcel Directorate came into existence in April of 2018.
- Parcel Network Optimization Project (PNOP)was undertaken by the Department to streamline parcel operations with the vision to capture atleast 15% of the CEP market share by 2026.
